Detailed itinerary

1
Stop 1

Set off on a 2-hour drive from the Takoradi port along a coastline marked with forts. On arrival in the Central Region, we will experience an hour's guided tour of the Elmina Castle, a well-preserved Castle and slave dungeon built by the Portuguese in 1482. Learn about its history and the pivotal role it played in the trans-Atlantic slave trade.

2

Experience a walking tour through the Elmina township to view homes built in colonial style.
Visit the colorful fishing harbor and the nearby vibrant fish market to interact with market women as they go about their daily activities. Take a stroll up to Fort Jago to enjoy spectacular views of the historical township of Elmina.

3

Stop for lunch at a local restaurant to try dishes prepared from locally sourced ingredients. After an hour's lunch break, we drive to the Cape Coast Castle, one of the best-preserved castles and also declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. Experience an hour's guided walk through the castle and its dungeons, which was once the last memory the enslaved had of their homeland before being shipped off to the 'New World'.
