From the meeting point we will go the central part of Budapest and will approach the river Danube. As we are walking along the embankment you will learn how the river affected the life of the city from ancient times to our present days. We will pass by the Vigadó, a romantic style concert hall and former ballroom, where the Hungarian capital was officially born by the merging of the old cities of Pest, Buda and Óbuda (old Buda). We will also visit the ruins of the Roman fortress, which the city of Pest grew out of.
Our next stop is the Central Market where you can learn more about Hungarian specialities and you can even taste some local food. Then we will cross the river and pass by the world famous Gellért and Rudas Thermal Baths, and in the meantime you will find out why Budapest is called „the capital of baths”.
Afterwards the tour continues in the Castle District, where you will get acquainted with the history of the Royal Palace, Matthias Church and the Fishermen’s Bastion. While having a pleasant walk you can enjoy a beautiful view of the city from the walls.
From the Castle District we will walk down to the river and cross it again to reach the Parliament and the area which is called Leopold town. Here we will find some beautiful examples of the Art Nouevau architecture. Finally we will arrive at Saint Stephan's Cathedral and if the weather is fine we will go up to the top of the building for one of the most magnificent panoramas over the capital. After the tour, you can relax in any of the restaurants or cafés close to the cathedral.
