Čilipi Village
Along the coast, a scenic ride passing villages of Župa Dubrovačka will take us to Čilipi village. Severely devastated during the war in the ’90s, now it has been reconstructed and is back to life. A a short stroll through the village will bring alive recent history and present with still remaning local life traditions.
Drive through Villages, Gruda Village stop
Later continuing our ride through the lower part of the valley you will be able to see a traditional way of building, local dwellings with old chimneys used as smokehouses. A beautiful view of the valley will be visible while the trip takes us towards the village of Gruda. We will make a stop in one of the local houses and see a family heritage displayed. This experience is like coming in in someone’s basement or attic where a family history of a region is on display.
A Medieval Fortress
We continue our drive through a valley until we reach a middle-aged fortress located in a nearby village of Dunave. It looks magnificent and it has been a border and important stronghold during the 15-16 century. For more than 300 years it has been completely forgotten. It offers a stunning view of the valley from the other side and the fortress itself has been renovated. We will enter the fortress and have a walkthrough. Some amazing stories are hidden behind the fortress walls.
Forest, River
Afterwards, we are coming down nearby a beautiful river source, where we will pass near old mills and have a short stroll through the forest. With an effort of the local people some of those mills have been reconstructed and today they are a great example of everyday life as it looked like not long ago. The way people ironed and softened different type of materials back then is quite amazing. We will make a short break to have a local drink.
Drive through Upper Valley
We will continue our ride along the upper valley. An interesting story is about to follow in Mihanići village where there is an old railway pathway built at the beginning of the 20ct. connecting the towns in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the coast of Montenegro. It was abandoned in the late 60’s.
We will drive down from the valley and reach the small town of Cavtat which is the gem of the southern part of the region. We will have a short tour through the town and free time for you to explore the town with the possibility to have lunch on your own on a beautiful promenade.
