However, Pompeii is a large site, covering about 170 acres (64 hectares), and the terrain can be uneven, with cobblestones, stairs, and sometimes slippery or loose gravel paths. Expect to walk several kilometers, which could take about 2 to 4 hours, depending on your pace and how much you want to explore. There are various routes through the ruins, and it’s possible to take a shorter walk or longer one.
