As the largest green area in downtown Chengdu, People’s Park was built in 1911. Located in central Chengdu, near Tianfu Square and Wide & Narrow Alley. Wenshu Monastery, also called Wenshu Yuan Monastery, is the largest and best-preserved Buddhist temple in Chengdu, which is dedicated to Wenshu (Manjushri), the Bodhisattva of Wisdom. It is also the home of the Buddhist Association of Sichuan Province and Chengdu City.
The monastery is a good place to wander through where you can escape the modernity and noise of the city. There is low murmur of chanting and despite frequent crowds of worshipers, there is still a sense of serenity and solitude.
Promenading along the narrow street, you will find yourself surrounded by old-world stores selling Shu Embroidery, lacquer products, folk handicrafts, curios, or calligraphies and paintings of celebrities. All of these stores have their unique style but also have one thing in common: no matter how busy the street is, the stores are peaceful and relaxing.
