Your day begins with a friendly meet and greet at the Starbucks in Zona Romántica, right in the heart of Puerto Vallarta. This is a great chance to meet your guide, grab a coffee, and go over the plan for the day before we set out on your waterfall adventure.
From there, we’ll drive south along the scenic coastal highway for about 45 minutes, a beautiful ride that offers stunning ocean views and glimpses of local life along the way. As we wind through the coastline, we’ll pass famous spots like Los Arcos Marine Park, small fishing villages, and tropical jungle landscapes that make this drive one of the most picturesque in the region.
As we leave the coast and head inland, the road winds through the lush green mountains toward Las Juntas y Los Veranos, a small and peaceful mountain town surrounded by jungle and rivers. On the way, we pass local houses, small family-owned stores, and schools, catching a glimpse of everyday life in rural Jalisco.
The drive feels like stepping back in time — with friendly locals waving from their porches, kids walking to school, and the scent of fresh tortillas or woodfire in the air. The scenery shifts from ocean views to dense Sierra Madre jungle, with rivers and hanging vines lining the roadside.
Just beyond town, the road narrows as we head deeper into the mountains until we reach the trailhead for the Mismaloya Waterfalls, where the adventure truly begins.
After passing through Las Juntas y Los Veranos, the road winds deeper into the mountains until we reach a quiet clearing surrounded by thick jungle — the trailhead to the Mismaloya Waterfalls. Here, we park the vehicle, grab your gear, and take a moment to stretch and breathe in the fresh mountain air. The sounds of the forest come alive — birds calling, the river flowing nearby, and the rustle of leaves in the breeze.
From the very first steps, the trail follows a gentle path shaded by tall trees and tangled vines. The air is cool and damp, carrying the scent of fresh earth and wildflowers. We cross small streams and walk over rocks along the way.
As the hike continues, the sound of rushing water grows stronger — a sign that the first waterfall is getting close. Every turn reveals more of the Sierra Madre’s beauty, and the deeper we go, the more it feels like entering a hidden paradise.
As we make your way along the trail, we soon reach the first small waterfall, a calm and peaceful spot tucked between the rocks. It’s the perfect place to rest for a few minutes, cool off, and take in the soothing sounds of the jungle before continuing your adventure.
From there, we follow the river upstream for about 10 minutes until we arrive at the second waterfall — a stunning cascade that sends out a refreshing, powerful breeze. The view here is incredible, making it a good stop for scenic photos surrounded by lush green canyon walls.
After taking in the view, we begin your climb up the mountain, navigating some rough but rewarding terrain until we reach the main third waterfall — the tallest and most impressive of them all. Here, the water plunges dramatically into a deep canyon, creating a cool mist that fills the air. It’s the perfect place to relax, swim, and enjoy the packed lunch we provide while surrounded by the sounds of the jungle and the beauty of nature.
