Walk With Me in My Birth Village
A Journey of Memory, Meaning, and a Learning Encounter with Artists & Villagers.
I invite you to walk with me through the village where I was born—a place where every path holds a story, every smile carries memory, and every moment is an offering of connection. Through me, you will meet my late father SOU Chan Huot aka. LIM Tech Huot who served as village and pagoda committee chief. We’ll begin gently, with a short meditative short rooted in respect and a reflection. As we walk past family homes including mine, I’ll share stories that shaped my childhood and the foundations of Cambodian beliefs, our enduring joie de vivre. I’ll tell you about the mural my mother sponsored in the vihear in 1990, and how it still speaks to me today. You’re welcome to listen, to ask, to reflect. Perhaps something in these stories will help you remember your own—or even begin to heal. And if we're in luck, we may enjoy a special meeting with artists along our way!

- Visit local homes, including mine, where hospitality and heritage live side by side
- Engage with personal reflections and cultural insights that connect and heal
- Encounter artists and villagers along the way — each moment a chance for shared memory.
We being with our first activity. After an introduction and setting the intention, we will walk in meditative steps and we will reflect together the elements of the pagoda and their functions.
Visiting EFEO: A Place of Memory and Knowledge
The EFEO Siem Reap Center, nestled near the Angkor Conservation compound, is a serene architectural gem. Its graceful colonial-era buildings and tranquil library invite quiet reflection. While there’s no confirmed record of it being a textile factory, the surrounding area—including parts of Slorkram and Boeung Daun Pa—did host various colonial-era facilities, some of which may have included textile or artisan workshops.
EFEO’s presence in Siem Reap dates back to 1907, when it was entrusted with the inventory and preservation of Angkor monuments. A year later, it established the Angkor Conservation Office, which became a hub for safeguarding temple artifacts and conducting archaeological research.
Today, visitors can:
- Explore the EFEO Library, which holds over 3,000 volumes in Khmer, French, and English, plus rare maps and archives from 1908–1975.
- Admire the architecture, blending French colonial design with Cambodian elements.
At the end of the walk, admire the arts adorning the wall of the pagoda main preah vihear witnessing painting sponsored by my mother in 1990. Guests may offer a story, a question, or a gesture of thanks—helping sustain access for others and honoring the shared path.
Encounter with artists who may help you learn or inspire you or even create magical shared moments with you!
