Kaindy Lake stands out for its unique history and its geological youth. It formed in the early 20th century after a powerful 1911 earthquake caused a landslide that blocked the Kaindy River, creating a natural dam. As the water filled the gorge, it submerged a forest, forming the stunning lake we see today.
Located at 1,800 meters above sea level, the lake is about 400 meters long, 100 meters wide, and over 20 meters deep. The water is crystal clear but very cold - around +6°C. Although a mudflow in the 1980s made the lake shallower, its surreal beauty continues to attract visitors all year round.
