Your tourguide will pick you up from your hotel and we will travel Route 1 South to the Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory Tower, the tallest bridge observatory in the world! On the same site, high on the banks of the Penobscot River, is Maine's fully intact Fort Knox. The historic Cadillac granite fort is open for your exploration. We'll bring flashlights for the dark spaces! It's an amazing place for kids of all ages! From here we can continue south on Route 1 to Belfast, Maine. Free from the crowds of Bar Harbor, this historic fishing port has a unique life all it's own. Go to mainstreetmaine.org/belfast for more info on the belfast waterfront. The wharf walk and walking bridge, restaurants, shops, and more, right there on the Belfast waterfront. On the way are multiple choices for other stops including an old quarry, an island beach trail, Fort Point Lighthouse, Searsport Maritime Museum, and more! This trip can start earlier or later, and end when you want (up to 9 hours).

If you want to take a side adventure to an amazing old quarry in the Maine countryside, just up the Penobscot River is the Mt. Waldo Quarry. Follow the old quarry road (steep, wide path, no climbing, but a steep ascent.) up the mountain for 1 mile, and discover a piece of Maine's past left behind on top of Mt. Waldo. Follow the loop trail all the way around the quarry for some awesome photo opportunities. Enjoy the incredible views, and an unforgettable experience!
