Detailed itinerary

1

Start of Tour:
The Cathedral of Palermo is the most imposing church in Sicily and one of the most significant examples of Arab-Norman architecture. Originally built as a place of Christian worship, it was transformed into a mosque during Arab rule, in 831, and then returned to Christianity with the arrival of the Normans. Inside, the tombs of Norman rulers are preserved, admission to the cathedral is free, while there is a ticket to access the crypts, mausoleums and rooftops, from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the city. This is the beginning of our tour, but your journey to discover Palermo can continue on foot along Via Vittorio Emanuele, crossing a pedestrian area full of charm. Continuing on this historic street, you will reach the picturesque Quattro Canti, the splendid Piazza Pretoria with its iconic fountain and, just ahead, the wonderful Arab-Norman churches of Piazza Bellini, authentic jewels of architecture.

2

He stops:
There are four districts that surround the square and four seasons represented by the splendid statues of Venus, Aeolus, Bacchus and Ceres. There are also four patron saints of the city, Agatha, Oliva, Nymph and Christina, and four Spanish kings who made Palermo great, Charles V and the three Philippi II, III and IV.

3

Stops at:Teatro Massimo, Piazza Giuseppe Verdi.

The largest theater in Italy and one of the most important in Europe, surpassed in size only by the Paris Opera and the Vienna Opera House. Its imposing facade is characterized by an elegant neoclassical colonnade, overlooking a majestic staircase. At the entrance, two imposing bronze lions welcome visitors. The Teatro Massimo is also known for being one of the iconic settings of Francis Ford Coppola’s film The Godfather – Part III.

4

It stops at: Via Filippo Turati, 2, 90139, Palermo, Sicily Italy Show on map

Overlooking Piazza Ruggero Settimo, the Politeama Theatre stands out for its semicircular structure and double porch decorated with columns in the Ionian and Doric styles. Inaugurated in 1874, the theatre features an innovative metal roof for the time, designed by engineer Damiani and built by Oretea foundry. At the top, a magnificent bronze quadriga depicting the Triumph of Apollo dominates the building, a symbol of the artistic vitality of the city

5

Last Stop at: Sanctuary of Santa Rosalia, Via Pietro Bonanno, no number, 90142, Palermo, Sicily Italy

Located on the summit of Monte Pellegrino, about 400 meters above sea level, the sanctuary is a sacred place and symbol of Palermo devotion. It is accessed through a suggestive staircase that leads to a facade set in the rock, just above the cave where the relics of Santa Rosalia were found in 1624. The saint became the patron saint of Palermo after her relics were carried in procession, ending a devastating plague epidemic. Every year, thousands of pilgrims face the traditional "Acchianata", a climb on foot that represents a rite of faith and gratitude towards the "Santuzza".

6

It stops at : Mondello and is a really suggestive and breathtaking stretch of coast. Behind it you can see Monte Pellegrino and near the beach you can admire up close a trap with the various anchors.
