Amberd Fortress is a medieval fortress situated on the slopes of Mount Aragats. Built in the 7th century, it served as both a military fortress and a royal residence.

Saghmosavank monastery dates back to the 13th century. It is translated as the monastery of psalms. According to the legend, the psalm singing of Gregory the Illuminator was heard for several miles, when he asserted in the caves underneath the church.
