Primer Refugio del Chimborazo: A Landmark of Adventure and Nature
Located at 4,800 meters above sea level, the first shelter of Chimborazo, also known as Refugio Hermanos Carrel, is the perfect starting point for adventurers looking to explore this majestic volcano. From here, visitors can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the glaciers and surrounding mountains.
Inaugurated in 1955, this refuge honors the Carrel brothers, pioneers in the ascent of Chimborazo. It is the ideal place to rest and acclimatize before continuing the ascent or simply to admire the unique landscape of the Ecuadorian Andes.
