After a visit and a guided tour at the church, you will continue to the Rila Monastery. It was established in the 10th century by the Bulgarian Saint John of Rila – the miracle maker. It is the biggest Bulgarian monastery and the most beautiful one. The current monastery complex was built in the 19th century, and was covered with amazing frescoes! The access to the yard and to the church is free.

When you arrive there, first you will have about one hour guided tour, which will also include the history museum and an authentic 19th century monk room!

Then, you will have one-hour free time to take photos and to check the souvenir shops.

After that, you will have the opportunity to have a lunch break at some of the nearby restaurants near the scenic road (the lunch is not included in the price!).
Alternatively, you can also opt for a light lunch at the bakery next to the monastery.

At 3:30 pm you should depart and at about 5:30 pm you should be back at Sofia.
