The Machame Route, known as the “Whiskey Route,” is famous for its steeper, more challenging terrain compared to the Marangu Route. You'll enjoy a scenic one-day hike to Machame Camp (3,000m) or a shorter trek to a viewpoint in the rainforest. After being picked up from your hotel or meeting point, you'll begin the journey to Machame Gate. Upon arrival, you’ll register with your guide and quickly start the hike. The trek through lush jungle forest to Machame Hut (2835m) takes about 4 to 5 hours. After reaching the hut and taking in the mountain views, you’ll have a 15 to 30-minute lunch break. Then, you’ll begin your descent back to the gate, which takes 3 to 4 hours. The Kilimanjaro day hike permit ends at 6:00 pm, so we must exit the park by then. After signing out at the gate, you’ll be dropped back at the hotel or meeting point, marking the end of your memorable Kilimanjaro day hike via the Machame Route.
