The site underwent refurbishment during the Ming dynasty (1368 - 1644) and was an important strategic location, guarding the entrance to the plains where Beijing is situated. Access to the Wall is available via cable car and chairlift. You have the opption to take the cable car/ski lift halfway up then hike the rest of the way. For the descent, you can choose to take the cable car down or opt for the toboggan slide.
