Discover the breathtaking beauty of New Zealand’s Fiordland on a full-day journey from Queenstown to Milford Sound. Experience stunning alpine landscapes, serene lakes, cascading waterfalls, and a scenic cruise through the iconic fjord — all in one unforgettable adventure.
Lake Te Anau is in the southwestern corner of the South Island of New Zealand. The lake covers an area of 344 km², making it the 2nd largest lake by surface area in New Zealand and the largest in the South Island. It is the largest lake in Australasia by fresh water volume. Popular launch point for cruises, kayaking, and glowworm cave tours.
As we begin this leg of the journey, we warmly welcome you to Fiordland National Park and the famous Milford Road. This scenic route into the heart of the fjords reveals a unique and dramatic side of New Zealand, where towering mountains, winding rivers, waterfalls and the playful Kea parrot await. Along the way, your guide will make several stops for photos and short walks, all while sharing engaging stories and cultural history.
Eglinton Valley is one of the first dramatic landscapes you’ll encounter as you enter Fiordland National Park on the way to Milford Sound. Stretching for over 30 kilometres, the valley was carved thousands of years ago by ancient glaciers, creating a wide, flat plain framed by steep, forest-clad mountains.
Just off the Milford Road, about 56 km from Te Anau, lies the tranquil Mirror Lakes – a peaceful spot that offers one of the most photogenic scenes in Fiordland National Park.
The Homer Tunnel is a dramatic and essential part of the journey to Milford Sound, cutting through the heart of the Darran Mountains in Fiordland National Park. This engineering marvel connects the Milford Sound to the Te Anau.
Tucked deep within Fiordland National Park, Milford Sound (Piopiotahi in Māori) is one of the most breathtaking and dramatic landscapes in all of New Zealand — and the world. With its towering cliffs, plunging waterfalls, and mystical atmosphere, called as "8th wonder of the world."
We'll be making a brief stop here so you can stretch your legs, grab a quick snack, or use the toilets. It’s a great chance to take a short break before we continue our journey to final destination Queenstown.
Welcome back to Queenstown, and congratulations on completing an unforgettable day through the heart of Fiordland and the stunning landscapes of Milford Sound. It’s been a long but truly memorable journey — full of towering mountains, deep fjords, cascading waterfalls, and rich stories.
