The Ieshima Islands, consisting of 44 islands large and small floating off the coast of Harima-nada, are also known as the “Islands of Happiness,” derived from the wordplay combining the characters for “four” (四) and “four” (四).
On one of these islands, the main island of Ieshima, lies the Ieshima Shrine, where Emperor Jimmu is said to have docked and prayed for maritime safety. The shrine is enveloped in sacred virgin forests, filled with pure, refreshing air.
