Step into the magical winter wonderland of Finnish Lapland with a visit to the Lampivaara Amethyst Mine, located in the heart of the beautiful Pyhä Luosto National Park. Surrounded by snowy forests and peaceful Arctic silence, this experience combines nature, geology, and the thrill of finding your own gemstone.
Pickup included
Your journey begins with a comfortable pickup from your accommodation in Rovaniemi. After a scenic drive to the village of Luosto, a short ride in a snowcat will bring you to the top of the fell where the mine is located. There, your guide will introduce you to the fascinating history of amethysts, formed over 2 billion years ago, and share cultural stories connected to this purple crystal.
Next, you will have the chance to dig for your own lucky amethyst using traditional tools in a sheltered area protected from wind and snow. If the stone you find fits in your closed fist, you can take it home as a meaningful souvenir of your time in Lapland.
This is one of the most eco-friendly gemstone mines in the world. All mining is done by hand without the use of heavy machinery to preserve the natural environment.
Before returning, you will have time to visit the small Amethyst Shop on site. Here you can browse locally made jewelry and souvenirs crafted from Lapland's own gemstones. Purchases are entirely optional and not included in the tour.
To finish the day, enjoy a satisfying break with a sandwich and a cup of hot chocolate, the perfect end to your Arctic experience.
