About this experience

Nyamirambo is a bustling and vibrant multi-cultural commercial suburb of Kigali that offers visitors a typical African flair. Comparable with South Africa’s ‘Township Tours’, this unique experience brings you right into the heart of the colors, noises and smells of urban Rwanda.

Here, people from different educational, cultural and social backgrounds live together among enchanting shops and busy markets, surrounded by the sounds of Islamic prayer, children’s games and commercial activities.

Your hosts, the young and charming women of the Nyamirambo , will take your hand and guide you through their home area, a part of town that is also called “the city that never sleeps”.

You are also invited to one of their homes where you will learn how to cook a Rwandan meal, and share lunch over intriguing conversations.

Nyamirambo - Biryogo: Where Tourism Creates Empowerment

Local women invite you into Kigali's most authentic neighborhood. 70% of profits go directly to them, funding education and healthcare for their families.

Learn Kinyarwanda basics and cultural customs at the Center. Then explore with your hosts through their multi-cultural, multi-religious community.

Shop Biryogo Market where 2,000 locals shop daily. Watch Mary and Florence's salon transform hair into art over hours.
Visit Maitre Kabambi, a Congolese refugee training West African apprentices—his tailor shop embodies cultures rebuilding together.

Cook traditional dishes in someone's home while intriguing conversations flow—about dreams, challenges, being single mothers, navigating cultures. Share matoke and ugali while questions go both ways.

Somewhere between cooking and these honest conversations, you stop being a tourist.

This tour directly employs 6 rotating jobs plus catering staff, supporting 18 families.
