About this experience

The Hook Experiences specializes in Private and Custom Tours. This is your opportunity to experience the wonders of Gray Whales in the estuary they traveled to rear their calves away from the crowds in small intimate groups.

Planet Earth filmed here.

Many close interactions can be expected with these curious animals. It is not uncommon to see them a few meters form the boat and lucky groups might get to touch an interested individual.
From the morning drive thru massive Cardon Cactus, stunning landscape, the mangrove lined bays, mountainous Isla Margarita, and sometimes triple digit numbers of Gray Whales, this is truly a Wild Baja Experience.

Detailed itinerary

1

We will meet in out office on the Malecon in beautiful La Paz BCS

2

A scenic 2 hour drive to Puerto Chale passing giant Cardon Cati, striking vistas of the mountainous terrain of Baja.

3

The bay of Almejas is located 25 km south of the bay of Magdalena, both bays being separated by the Marcy channel on which is Alcatraz Port. At the southern end of the bay is the island of Crescent, and the Rehúsa canal, which connects the bay with the Pacific Ocean. There are a series of sand bays, which border the northern and east part of the bay of Almejas. On the bay are the following towns: Puerto Datil, Puerto Cortez, Las Cuevitas, Puerto Charley and El Cayuco.

4

Puerto Chale is a fishing community on the Pacific Ocean coast. It is the closest point from La Paz to visit the gray whales. In the winter season, this natural spectacle attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world.

This community is in full tourist development, so it still maintains its essence of tranquility away from the crowds. As fishing is its main activity, there are small points where you can enjoy dishes made with the catch of the day, or buy fish and seafood to go.

Being located just two hours from La Paz, visitors can spend half a day sailing in a panga to spot the whales, eat in Puerto Chale and return in perfect time to continue enjoying La Paz.
