Detailed itinerary

1

Hai Van Pass is a stunning 21-kilometer mountain road that winds between Hue and Da Nang, offering breathtaking views and unforgettable scenery. Renowned for its dramatic curves and panoramic vistas, this iconic route is a must-see for anyone traveling in Vietnam, providing a unique opportunity to experience the natural beauty and rugged landscapes of the region.

2

May 1, 1972, is etched in the memory of people in Quang Tri and Thua Thien provinces, not for International Labor Day, but for the horrific events that transpired on Vietnam Highway 1, about ten kilometers south of Quang Tri City. On this day, thousands of civilians—primarily the elderly, women, and children—along with numerous soldiers, were tragically killed by artillery and infantry fire during intense hours of combat.

3

Long Hung Church stands as a powerful symbol of resilience and bravery during the Vietnam War. For 81 days, North Vietnamese forces fiercely defended the church against American and South Vietnamese troops, enduring relentless attacks involving machine gun fire, grenades, and even naval shells. This historic site is a testament to the enduring spirit and courage shown during the conflict.

4

Doc Mieu Firebase, located 8 kilometers south of the Ben Hai River and just off Highway 1, was a significant American base during the Vietnam War, part of the "McNamara Line." Over the years, it has been extensively searched by scrap-metal collectors and American veteran groups seeking missing in action personnel. Recent excavations have primarily uncovered remains of Vietnamese soldiers.

5

The original Hien Luong Bridge, painted half red and half yellow, was a vivid symbol of the physical and ideological divide between North and South Vietnam. Destroyed by American bombing in 1967, it served as a stark reminder of the country’s division during the war.

Stop 6

The Vinh Moc Tunnels, built at depths of 10, 15, and 20-23 meters, are a remarkable example of wartime ingenuity. Designed with effective ventilation, freshwater wells, and eventually, a generator and lights, these tunnels housed an underground village complete with a school, clinic, and maternity room where 17 children were born. Each family had a small cavern, barely larger than a single bed. Notably, the Vinh Moc Tunnels are taller than the Cu Chi Tunnels, showcasing their advanced design and functionality.
