Live like a local in this quiet, unassuming, but history-filled neighborhood of Taman Jurong; where Singapore had its first industrial estate (and accompanying housing), National Service camp, hawker food center, drive-in cinema, and more! You will experience what life is like for an average local away from the busy tourists spots; the food we eat, where we shop, and what makes one of the densest cities in the world one of the most livable cities. No fancy buildings and streets, but plenty of beautiful stories to share with. We conduct free tours like this because we enjoy meeting friends from all over the world! (No tips required.) The platform imposes a minimum charge, but we'll treat you to some drinks and snacks in return =]
This meeting point is a formerly the first and only drive-in cinema in Singapore! If you're a nature lover, you could come earlier to explore the garden too!
The insta-worthy Diamond block is a favourite among photographers. It was formerly the first high-rise housing in Jurong. You will also learn how to order local drinks through a game!
We will visit a typical public housing estate to explore its features and how we make this tiny dense city a livable home for all.
This neighbourhood mall comes with many interesting art murals. We will do some shopping here to see what locals buy in their everyday lives.
We will pass by the community club which is the country club for the layman, a place for social cohesion. We will also share the story of the first grounds-up community library, The Caterpillar Library.
We will then end our tour at Market I & 60 stalls, the first food centre, for some local delights, its history and stories of our hawkers.
