About this experience

The spectacular and awe-inspiring Birds of Eden is the largest free-flight single dome aviary in the world. The sanctuary encompasses 2.3ha of forested land, covered by mesh and with a 1.2km walkway. Visitors are welcome to explore at their own pace or request a guided tour at no extra cost.
The sanctuary is home to 220 different species & subspecies of birds totaling over 3500 birds. From the indigenous and beautiful Knysna lourie with its awkward call for such a gracious bird, the other lourie (Turaco) species, parrots, parakeets, waterfowl, flamingos, starlings, robins and graceful cranes.

The sanctuary includes a deep gorge with a waterfall and the aviary is approximately 50m high, covering all the treetops and allowing ample flying space for its winged inhabitants. This sanctuary is suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Wheelchair accessible. All Weather facility – during rain you will get wet.
