The 16th century Hadimba Temple is surrounded by cedar forests. The beautiful setting of the temple is a major attraction. The temple is dedicated to Hadimba, the wife of Bheema, one of the five heroes of the Hindu epic Mahabharata. The wooden doors of the temple are intricately carved and depict the forms of the Earth Goddess, Durga. The temple does not have an idol of the Goddess but a huge stone carrying her footprint is kept there.
After the temple, visit a Tibetan monastery and learn about Tibetan culture and customs. Spend some moments in silent contemplation within the peaceful precincts of the monastery.
Vashisht Temple is dedicated to the Hindu Sage Vashishta. The water here is believed to have curative properties. Sage Vashishta was the guru (teacher) of the Hindu God Rama. The village was the home of the Vashishta clan until 1534 when the Mughal Emperor Akbar seized the temple and the neighboring villages and banished the descendants of the clan to exile in the Pendjab.
