The Connemara Public Library is also the oldest library of India. Connemara Public Library, the oldest library in India that was established in 1896. It is worth to note that this library was originally operated by bringing surplus books from Haileybury and Imperial Service College Library in England.

It is also one of the four National Depository Libraries which receives a copy of all books, newspapers and periodicals published in India. It is a repository of centuries old publications, wherein lie some of the most respected works and collections in the country. It also serves as a depository library for the UN.

Anna Centenary Library is a newly established state library of the Government of Tamil Nadu. It is South Asia's largest and most elegantly designed library. It has over 1.2 million books in its collection. The major attraction of the library is the children's section with fun-filled theme-based reading area, multimedia kits and storybooks. The library also has a special section for the visually-impaired, with talking books and Braille displays.
