About this experience

Visit Shillong, also known as the ‘Scotland of the East’ for its beautiful lakes and mountains. Shillong is the capital city of the North Eastern state of Meghalaya. Situated 4,900 feet above sea level it is also called ‘The Abode of Clouds’. On this day excursion unwind in the natural beauty and serenity of this scenic hill station and visit the major attractions of this town.

Detailed itinerary

You will be picked up from your hotel in Guwahati in the morning for the 3-hour drive to Shillong, 60 miles away. Stop for breakfast (own expense) en route.

Upon reaching Shillong start your tour with a visit to the picturesque Umiam Lake. The lake is a great place for kayaking and boating.

Next drive to Elephant Falls and relax to the sound of crystal clear water cascading down the mountain. The Falls are one of the natural wonders of North-East India.

Visit Shillong peak, the highest point of Shillong situated at a height of 6,449 ft. It offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire town, the Himalayas, its waterfalls as well as the plains of Bangladesh.

Stop at a local restaurant for lunch (own expense).

After lunch, visit Ward’s Lake, a horseshoe shaped artificial lake right in the middle of the town. The lake is surrounded by lush green gardens and has several exotic trees. Walk over the beautiful white wooden bridge and explore the other side of the lake as well.

The last stop on the itinerary is the Don Bosco Center for Indigenous Cultures. It is a large seven-story building that is a repository of information on the seven states of North-Eastern India. It has 17 galleries displaying cultural artefacts and paintings. The museum also has a wide collection of regional attires, accoutrements, handicrafts, ornaments, photographs and weapons. It is situated within the premises of the Sacred Heart Church and is managed by the Salesian Order of the Catholic Church.

At the end of the tour, you will be driven back to Guwahati and dropped off at your hotel.
