You will be driven about 33 miles from Kochi to Alleppey (also known as Alappuzha). It is a town with picturesque canals, backwaters, beaches, and lagoons. It once was described as the "Venice of the East" by Lord Curzon. Now, it is known as the "Venetian Capital" of Kerala. Malayalam is the most spoken language here. The town is blessed with lovely panoramic views of canals, rivers, lakes, paddy fields and lush green vegetation. Alleppey is a mixture of different cultures. Trade relations were very common in the late 17th century to 19th century between Portuguese and Dutch. For this reason, a lighthouse was built near the Alleppey beach. This lighthouse is thought to be the oldest in Kerala. During your cruise, you will see the lush green paddy fields, lagoons, and canals. Fishing is very important to the locals. The food served during your cruise reflects the simple yet delicious cuisine of the region.
