Located in the Waikato region, just a few hours from Auckland or Rotorua, these ancient limestone caves are home to something truly magical: thousands of tiny glowworms that light up the darkness like a starry night sky.

It formed naturally thousands of years ago in a low-lying peat area.
The name Rotoroa is Māori and means “long lake.”
The lake is significant to local Māori iwi (tribes).
Its original Māori name is now widely used alongside “Hamilton Lake.”

The Hamilton Gardens were awarded International Garden of The Year 2014. Not technically a botanical garden, but rather 21 themed gardens representing the art, beliefs, lifestyles, and traditions of different civilizations or historical garden styles.
