During the cold winter months, methane gas released from organic matter at the bottom of the lake becomes trapped beneath layers of crystal-clear ice, forming spectacular frozen bubbles that look like white discs suspended in time.
Our visit to Peyto Lake includes a short and easy hike through a beautiful alpine forest, surrounded by mountain scenery and fresh mountain air. The well-maintained trail leads us to a designated viewpoint overlooking one of the most famous lakes in Banff National Park.
