St. Johns Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve is North Florida's first and only garden and nature preserve With over 400 species of palm. Our founder is well known throughout our community and has written various books and teachings on amphibians and reptiles and has been a regular contributor to the Palmateer regarding different species of palms. Over the last 20 years he has compiled a large and diverse collection of palms that have now become the core of the collection at the St Johns botanical garden, this is the largest collection of palms north of Orlando and makes the St, Johns Botanical Garden a unique place to visit. When you attend a tour at our garden, you will have several opportunities to ask questions. We also allow photographers to bring cameras along so they can take pictures along the tour and you will be given the opportunity to wonder the gardens without a guide after the tour if you would like. We also have picnic tables available for you at no additional cost.
Upon meeting your guide you will be educated on the gardens history and purpose in the main reception. Your guide will describe gardens inception under hundreds years old oak canopies.
On our next stop your guide will palm villa and cactus hills. Here you will see Variations of cacti, agave, and palms from all over the world.
Your guide will enter you into our prized garden, palm central. Here you will witness palms from various continents and there evolutions of existence in our hemisphere.
Your guide will lead you to our beautiful tiki key and surrounding blue lagoon. Here you can take in massive palms and various fauna along the water's edge.
Eyes wide open! Upon entry to the nature preserve, your guide will inform you of the possible sighting of wildlife indigenous to the area and the appropriate behavioral manner in case the are seen. As you continue your walk through the indigenous forest, your guide will also teach you about native species of reptiles, amphibians, flora and fauna and the history of deep creek.
As we are almost done with our tour, you will be guided through our rare plant nursery. Once completed, you will have the freedom to enjoy the garden and gift shop on your own and enjoy our picnic areas.
