In Betancuria we have time to visit the old capital from 1404 on foot. Free time for a coffee and to visit the cathedral Santa Maria (ticket cost 2€), if open.

During the 17th and 18th centuries, the port of Tarajalejo became the fourth most important pier in Fuerteventura and the second in the south of the island. Illustrious passengers embarked and disembarked on it, as well as all kinds of products, whether cattle, grain, food or wood.

Pájara is one of the oldest towns in Fuerteventura and was a very early settlement from Betancuria. It survived complete destruction during the Arab invasion of 1593 when all of Betancuria was reduced to dust. The town takes its name from the hen pheasant, as the coat of arms shows.
