Detailed itinerary

1

Meet your guide at the centrally located office in Sorrento at 8:15 a.m. and board your air-conditioned coach for a full-day adventure to Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius.

2
Stop 2

Walk through the remarkably preserved ruins of Pompeii, an ancient Roman city buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D., and discover streets, villas, and temples frozen in time.

3

Visit the grand Basilica of Pompeii, once used for business and justice, and admire its impressive size and architectural design within the city’s main forum.

4

Explore the heart of ancient Pompeii’s public life at the Civil Forum, where politics, trade, and worship all took place with Mount Vesuvius rising in the background.

5

See the ruins of the Temple of Jupiter, Juno, and Minerva, once the most important religious site in Pompeii, standing proudly with views toward Vesuvius.

6

Step into the lively marketplace where ancient Romans once bought their food and goods, and learn how the 62 A.D. earthquake reshaped this central hub.

7
Stop 7 Pass by

Stroll along Pompeii’s main street, lined with ancient shops, taverns, and bakeries that reveal the daily life and bustling atmosphere of the city before the eruption.

8
Stop 8

Discover how ancient Pompeiians relaxed and socialized in the beautifully preserved Forum Baths, with separate sections for men and women.

9
Stop 9 Pass by

Pass by the Lupanar, Pompeii’s most famous brothel, and glimpse the detailed frescoes that reveal the intimate side of ancient Roman life.

10

Admire the luxurious House of the Menander, a lavish Roman villa decorated with vivid frescoes and intricate mosaics once belonging to a noble family.

11
Stop 11

Experience the grandeur of Pompeii’s Large Theater, carved into a natural slope and once home to lively performances of Greek and Roman tragedies.

12
Stop 12

Arrive at an elevation of about 1,000 meters on Mount Vesuvius, the legendary volcano overlooking the Bay of Naples. This somma-stratovolcano, connected to nearby Monte Somma, famously erupted in 79 A.D., burying the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Today, it’s one of the world’s most closely monitored volcanoes, studied continuously by scientists for its powerful geological activity.

13
Stop 13

Hike up to the crater’s rim at about 1,280 meters to take in sweeping views of the Gulf of Naples. The trail can be uneven, but the panoramic scenery makes the effort worthwhile. After the eruption, the volcano was dedicated to Vulcan, the Roman god of fire and metalworking.
