This tour includes seven experiences at Mitaki Temple and its surroundings, a serene mountainside temple founded in 809 and cherished by locals for centuries. After a short introduction in central Hiroshima, we head to Mitaki, where the main experiences take place. At the temple, you’ll see a striking pagoda, a bell hall, many stone Buddhist statues, and more as you try small activities and take easy walks, connecting with the spirit of peace in Hiroshima, with some photo-friendly spots along the way. These experiences help you understand what Hiroshima’s past can teach us today.
You’ll visit several important sites—including the Rest House (a building damaged by the atomic bomb) and the Atomic Bomb Dome—while listening to explanations from your guide. Depending on time, the tour may also include the hypocenter. This part of the tour serves as an introduction to the main experience at Mitaki Temple, helping you understand the reality of the atomic bombing and providing context for the places you’ll visit later. After the walk, we will take a local bus from the Atomic Bomb Dome area to the Mitaki area.
After getting off the bus, we’ll walk to Mitaki Temple at a relaxed pace, stopping at a few points of interest along the way while listening to the guide’s explanations. The walk takes about 10 minutes. At Mitaki Temple (admission included), your guide will lead you through the quiet, wooded temple grounds, where you’ll see preserved atomic-bombed structures, the temple’s pagoda, stone Buddhist statues, and monuments related to peace and remembrance. Through this visit, you’ll gain insight into the historical context of Hiroshima after the atomic bombing. After the visit, we’ll walk to Mitaki Station and take the train back to central Hiroshima.
