About this experience

This is one of the most amazing drives of your vacation! (Either direction you're going, I got you covered!) ...I'm Kel Thompson, the owner/operator and your tour guide! Yes, I do all my own tours (and stunts!) I've guided over 10,000 guests for multiple companies in my career here in Alaska and now offer my own private tours in an amazing new Mercedes Sprinter! Before guiding I was a standup comedian and combine humor with a fervent love of Alaskan history, and this all goes into your cruise transfer, which goes down the mountain lined Turnagain Arm and through the historic Anton Anderson tunnel! Along the way, we'll pull out for photo stops and a coffee if you would like! I am very flexible and want to make this part of your journey just as fun and memorable as the rest of your vacation! I have limited availability so book early and message me any special requests via the app you booked on! (I can accommodate up to 11 people per tour.) I look forward taking you to OR from Whittier!

What you'll see

BOOKING FOR THE CRUISE SHIP SEASON OF 2026!
(This is private transportation, and I can accommodate groups of 1 - 10 people.)

1. I can pickup in Whittier and drop off in Anchorage OR pickup in Anchorage and Drop off in Whittier. This is designed to be transportation to and from the cruise ships in Whittier for groups of up to 10 people. However, it's more than just transportation, I'll narrate for the majority of the tour telling you all about Alaska's history and what we're looking at, and it's one of the most remarkable drives I've ever seen and enjoy it every time I do it, and you're certain to love it! In addition we will make photo stops at scenic locations, time and weather permitting.

2. If you're going back to the Airport from Whittier, I will pick you up in Whittier at the time your cruise departs, usually about 8a but you can message me a specific time.

3. There is the Anton Anderson tunnel, which I love, it is very unique and uncommonly long at 2.7 miles, with a lot of history surrounding it. It's actually bi-directional (meaning only one lane, and we share it with the train!) However, it only opens on the hour to go out of Whittier and on the half hour to go into Whittier. Generally, it works out in our favor, but it can run a little behind on rare occasion. It's not that complicated but certainly can sound a bit confusing, but we'll time the transfer so it works out smoothly!

4. If you're going to your cruise ships departure from Anchorage, I will pick you up at your air bnb, or hotel, the drive is about an hour and a half, and we'll time our photo stops to make the tunnel so we're there early.

5. Upon arrival at the cruise ship, we'll deliver your bags to the longshoremen and you can go ahead and check in and your bags will meet you in your room. It's helpful but not required if you have your ships tags on your bags, if not we will tag them when we drop them off, I've done this 1000s of times and there's never been an issue. (Don't forget to have your passports in hand when we drop off your bags.)

6. After you book you can message me via the Viator app (the messages go straight to my email so I respond to all messages) Please let me know any specific requests! I'm here to help make it a relaxing and enjoyable part of your vacation.

7. Lastly, as I've mentioned, I'm the owner / operator, you are not getting an employee or a "driver" for a company, you get me :) I am here to make it as fun and easy as the rest of your vacation! My new Mercedes Sprinter can accommodate up to 10 people! Book early though, because I can only do one or two transfers a day during the cruise ship season!

In summary, whether you are going to your cruise or returning to Anchorage from your cruise, I can get you there from... uh, there :) Simply book the tour, message me any details and I'll be there on time, with bells on to make your trip fun, easy and memorable! It is generally just over an hour of driving, but with the tunnel timing and stops for photos, I typically allow 90 minutes - up to 2 hours total.
