St. Thomas Church is most famous as the workplace of Johann Sebastian Bach, one of the greatest composers in history. Bach served as the choirmaster from 1723 until his death in 1750.

The New Town Hall was built between 1899 and 1905, during a period of rapid urban development in Leipzig. It was officially opened in 1905, replacing the Old Town Hall as the seat of the city government.
