Built in the 19th Century: Unlike many older Omani forts, Taqah Castle is relatively young, constructed in the 19th century during the reign of Sultan Taimur bin Faisal al Said (1913-1932. It originally served as the private residence of Sheikh Ali bin Taman Al Ma'shani, the grandfather of Sultan Qaboos's mother. Later, it became government property and functioned as an administrative center and residence for local governors. The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism undertook extensive restoration efforts, and the castle was reopened as a museum in 1994, preserving its original design and showcasing Omani history.
