About this experience

Are you planning a day out or weekend trip to Monnickendam, then you can have a lot of fun with this city walk. An Escape game and city walk at the same time. 2,5 kilometres long and over 1,5 - 2 hours of fun for the family or a group of friends. Meanwhile, during this game there is plenty of time to sit on one of the terraces. A city walk has never been so much fun. An app will help you with your quest during the city walk. The Monk of Monnickendam pretends to be a cleric, so many people trust him. And if they are not careful for a moment, he steals from them. Nobody knows where he is now, neither do the police. Many people have seen him, but don't want to talk about it. Unless you help them with their questions.

The War Memorial in Monnickendam commemorates the 25 local residents who perished during World War II. Unveiled in 1955, this memorial is a stone plaque prominently displayed in the Zarkenplantsoen, a central square in the town. The plaque bears the inscription "1940 – 1945" and lists the names of the fallen, serving as a solemn reminder of the community's wartime sacrifices.

The Grote Kerk (Great Church) in Monnickendam is a Gothic-style church constructed between 1400 and 1450, originally dedicated to Saint Nicholas. Notably, it features a three-nave hall design supported by 24 pillars, and its tower, completed between 1510 and 1550, houses a clock by Everhardus Splinter and a bell cast in 1641 . After the Reformation in 1572, the church was repurposed for Protestant services, and it remained a burial site until 1830.

Waterlandsmuseum de Speeltoren is a unique museum located in Monnickendam, Netherlands, housed in a 16th-century city tower known as the Speeltoren. The museum offers an immersive experience into the history and culture of the Waterland region, featuring exhibits on topics such as the origins of Monnickendam, maritime heritage, traditional cheese-making, and the historic Zuiderzee region .
