About this experience

Visit North Macedonia’s most prestigious monastery, which is located deep in the forest. A medieval place where monks isolate themselves from the rest of the modern world, so they can devote themselves entirely to their faith. The monastery households the biggest and finest wood-carved iconostases in the world. According to legends this iconostasis is a source of many ancient secrets.

After some free time and optional lunch, you continue the journey towards the Duff Waterfalls. While entering the Natural Park of Mavrovo, which is the biggest in the whole Balkan, the path will lead you to the village of Rostushe and the canyon of the Rostushka river. At some points this canyon has a stunning dept of 100 meters. While enjoying this short walk, our guide will provide you astonishing tales about the flora and fauna of the National Park of Mavrovo.

North-Macedonia is known for the amount of monasteries and churches. Only in the city of Ohrid, you can find a whopping 365 monasteries and churches. But this white and isolated monastery is the most prestigious of the whole country! From the outside it's astonishing, but the inside is full of icons, wall paintings and it households the biggest and finest wood-carved iconostases of the world.

It's located in the heart of Mavrovo, the biggest national Park of the Balkan region. Here you will see many monks that devote their whole life for Christianity. While walking around our guide will provide you with all the details about the ancient mysteries that lay here.

Join this short but beautiful hike in the mountains of National Park Mavrovo. Here you will see the true colors of mother nature and you will find yourself in a place which is known for here unique collection of flora and fauna. In general Mavrovo households many animals, for example the lynx, brown bear, various amount of butterfly's, lizards, frogs, birds and many more.

Furthermore, you will reach the characteristic Duf waterfalls, where the waters cascades down a rocky cliff into the Radika River, creating a picturesque spectacle. This waterfall is known for the dark color, that's why it earns the nickname "Black Waterfall".

Walking back you will see the canyon of Rostushka river and the mountain village of Rostusa.
