It was established in the early Meiji period (1868-1912) when fishermen from Ishikari Beach began selling fresh fish. Today, about 15 fishery companies and fresh fish stores line Nijo Market, selling the freshest seafood purchased that day. Crabs, hokke, scallops, and other seafood are lined up in a dazzling array. Each store sells different kinds of seafood, and it is fun to compare them. There are also about six sushi restaurants, seafood rice bowls, and aburi-yaki (grilled seafood) restaurants. The seafood you taste at the market is exceptional. We hope you will try it.
