The Tokyo National Museum, founded in 1872, is the oldest and largest museum in Japan and is located in Ueno Onshi Park in Taito-ku, Tokyo.
The museum's purpose is to collect, store, display, exhibit, research, and disseminate cultural properties (art works, archaeological artifacts, etc.) from Japan and the Orient. The National Museum of Western Art, located in Ueno Park in Taito-ku, Tokyo, is an art museum specializing in Western art. It is operated by the Independent Administrative Institution National Museum of Art. The main building is registered as a World Heritage site as a component of “Le Corbusier's Architectural Works - Outstanding Contribution to the Modern Architectural Movement.
