It is said that the original Kawazu-zakura tree was planted in 1955 by Katsumi Iida, who happened to find a budding cherry seedling along the Kawazu River and planted it in his garden.
The trunk of the original tree was about 115 cm in circumference, and it is said to be about 60 to 70 years old.
The sight of many flowers blooming in a ball-like mass is sure to soothe the viewer.
This festival is held for about a month, coinciding with the blooming of the Kawazu cherry trees.
