About this experience

Get picked up directly from your accommodation and enjoy a comfortable drive in a Mercedes vehicle along the Adriatic coast. Stroll through mesmerizing gardens of Trsteno Arboretum. The Arboretum is the oldest renaissance garden in Dalmatia. It dates back as far as 1492 when an irrigation aqueduct was built and was once owned by the Gučetić-Gozze family. Interested in plants, they ordered seeds and greenery from ships coming from different parts of the world
Explore the town of Ston; its salt pans and the longest fortified walls in Europe. A visit to oyster and mussel farms nested within Mali Ston Bay is also an option. This tour will take you through the picturesque peninsula of Pelješac, rich in winegrowing areas and a centuries-old tradition of producing excellent wines going back to ancient Greek and Romans.
We will be visiting three renowned wineries where you can see the process of production and learn about grape varieties that are grown here. Wine tasting is up to your choice.

Detailed itinerary

1

Get picked up from your accommodation and enjoy a comfortable 30minute drive along Adriatic Highway to Trsteno village

2
Stop 2

Gorgeous whatever the season, this leafy garden, 14km northwest of Dubrovnik, is the oldest of its kind in Croatia. It was during the Renaissance that Dubrovnik’s noblesse started to pay extra attention to their gardens. Ivan Gučetić started the trend at his Trsteno estate in 1494, and his descendants maintained the garden throughout the centuries. The land was eventually taken over by the Yugoslav Academy of Sciences & Arts, which turned it into a public arboretum.
Admission cost: €10 per person

3

The first underwater winery in the world, located in the heart of the Adriatic sea.
The EDIVO winery is as unique as wineries come. Determined to make their wine as unique as humanly possible, this winery decided to age their wine by placing bottles into amphorae which are then immersed into the sea for more than 700 days.

4

Grgić Vina was established in 1996 by legendary Napa Valley winemaker, Croatian-born Miljenko “Mike” Grgich and his daughter, Violet Grgich. Mike started the winery to produce the finest wines from native Dalmatian grapes and concentrates on crafting Croatia’s very best varietals: Plavac Mali and Pošip.

The winery is perched overlooking the Adriatic Sea just north of the historic walled city, Dubrovnik, in the southern Dalmatia wine region of Croatia.

Enjoy sightseeing the winery and optional wine tasting.

5
Stop 5

Enjoy comfortable 1.5 hour drive along Adriatic highway and Peljesac peninsula. Lined with long shingle beaches, the Pelješac peninsula that stretches out north of Dubrovnik towards Korčula is that wonderful rarity, a Dalmatian getaway without the crowds. Welcoming to windsurfers and wine lovers alike, Pelješac is also known for its oysters and mussels, arguably the best in Croatia. Once the northern outpost of the Ragusa Republic, today’s Dubrovnik, Pelješac still contains the unique historic attraction of the Walls of Ston, Europe’s longest fortification.

6
Stop 6

The Walls of Ston (Croatian: Stonske zidine) are a series of defensive stone walls, originally more than 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) long, that surrounded and protected the city of Ston, in Dalmatia, part of the Republic of Ragusa, in what is now southern Croatia. Their construction was begun in 1358.

7

As one of the oldest oyster-farming regions in the world, Ston is home to several oyster farms that produce some of the finest oysters in Croatia. Visitors can tour some of these farms and learn about the history and process of oyster farming. Several restaurants in Ston and Mali Ston serve fresh oysters.
In Mali Ston, be sure to visit the Oyster Farm Museum to learn about the history of oyster farming in this region. Afterward, enjoy lunch at one of Mali Ston’s waterfront restaurants – you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu!

8

One of the oldest family owned winery in region, which is specialized in producing high quality wines from Plavac Mali from organic vineyards on the steep manually farmed terraced land of the Peljesac Peninsula. Also produce awarded extra virgin olive oil and herbal tea.
After Miloš winery we will head back towards Dubrovnik. Your return transfer will take 70 minutes.

9

The area of Ston thanks to its geographical position, fertile fields, abundance of water and salinity, natural resources as well as a short peninsula which connects Pelješac with the main land, became a very important residence area for people. Solana dates back to the Roman times, two thousand years B.C. In ancient times the area was inhabitated by the Ilyrians and Greeks and from 167 B.C. the Roman rule begins and this is the first time that exploatation and salt collecting is mentioned in are Ston area. The Ston salt pans are the oldest in Europe and the largest preserved ones in the history of the Mediterranean.
