Detailed itinerary

1

We’ll begin with a walk through Sunroad Shopping Street, voted Tokyo residents’ second favorite shopping street in 2022 (just after Ameyoko). Stretching 300 meters and lined with around 150 shops, Sunroad is filled with everyday charm — from cozy cafés and fashion boutiques to long-standing family stores. It’s the perfect place to feel the lively, local rhythm of Kichijoji.

2

Next, we’ll visit Gesso-ji Temple, the heart of Kichijoji’s history and the reason this town was originally formed. A peaceful Zen Buddhist temple surrounded by greenery, it remains an important gathering place for the local community. Take a moment to slow down and enjoy the calm, spiritual side of the neighborhood.

3

Stroll along Nakamichi-dori and nearby streets, where old and new Tokyo meet. You’ll find shops that have been beloved for over half a century standing alongside stylish cafés, sweets shops, and unique boutiques. Every corner has something interesting — whether it’s a retro storefront, handmade goods, or the aroma of freshly brewed coffee.

4

We’ll finish at Harmonica Yokocho, a narrow maze of small bars and eateries that began as a post-war black market. Its name comes from how the tiny alleyways resemble the reeds of a harmonica. As red lanterns sway above and laughter spills from the doorways, you’ll feel a nostalgic slice of old Tokyo. Enjoy one drink and two skewers of yakitori while soaking up the lively evening atmosphere.
