Nicknamed the "Little Kyoto of Satsuma", Chiran is home to more than 500 samurai residences during the late Edo period (19th century).
As the original buildings of the complex are well-preserved, one can get to witness a real, Edo Period Samurai settlement here.

Located on the Satsuma Peninsula in Kagoshima, Japan, the Chiran airbase played a pivotal role as the takeoff point for numerous Special Attack or kamikaze missions during the closing months of World War II. Today, a peace museum known as the Chiran Peace Museum for Kamikaze Pilots stands as a tribute to these pilots and occupies the site

Tosenkyo valley in Ibusuki is the birthplace of the unique serving style of soumen noodle called 'soumen nagashi'.
The unique table provided for each group or family, and clear water comes direct to those table by water pressure without power of any electrical motor.
