Detailed itinerary

1

Get ready to explore the most amazing sites in the north of the island. From the city of Port-Louis, where battles were fought in the past and where the first developments were done under French and British occupation to the SSR Botanical Garden where endemic plants can be spotted, this tour offers a full trip along memory lane brushed with some scenic nature views.

The botanical garden is home to an incredible variety of tropical plants, many of them indigenous. The Botanical Garden is one of the most visited sights & was first opened as a private garden by the French governor nearly 300 years ago. The botanical garden stretches over endless acres of land and it can take you more than a week to cover the whole garden. The Botanical Garden is populated with more than 650 varieties of plants among which are the famous Baobabs, the palmier bouteille, the ineluctable giant water lilies, dozens of medicinal plants, 85 different varieties of palms, a big spice garden and many more.

2

Visit and Tour of Port Louis. Enjoy a visit to Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius. Port Louis is Mauritius' largest city and the economic and administrative centre of the island. Right off the main square, you can stroll beside the palm-lined Place d'Armes. You can see some wonderful French colonial buildings, especially the Government House and the Municipal Theater. You will have free time to visit Port Louis Waterfront and the Le Caudan Waterfront shopping complex. The bustling Port Louis Waterfront offers exciting shopping and entertainment venues intermingled with world-class hotels and restaurants overlooking the Port Louis Harbor. The waterfront area has become an essential site of tourism and cultural life in Mauritius.

3

The craft market in particular is a hive of activity with a wonderful ambiance where you are sure to find a lot of souvenirs for the family back home.

4

Another place to visit is the Port Louis central market – the market is a fun place to visit and the ideal place to find many locally made products, textiles, Mauritian spices, fruits and many souvenirs for very cheap prices. In your free time, you can stroll the city streets and see several sightseeing attractions such as: The Anglican and Catholic cathedrals, the main city Mosque, Chinatown, the Supreme Court house, the 18th century Barracks and the Natural History Museum (free entry).

5

Fort Adelaide (also known as La Citadelle) was built in a very strategic location on higher lands of Port Louis at 240 feet above sea level. The construction of Fort Adelaide started in 1832 and was completed after almost ten years. Fort Adelaide offers vast panoramic views of Port-Louis and its harbour. The British built this fortress in fear of a civil war from the remaining French settlers on the island and also for the purpose of guarding the harbour against enemy attacks. A ride uphill to Fort Adelaide guarantees breathtaking views of Port Louis and of the mountain range surrounding Port Louis.

6

The Church with its Red roof top made is situated ideally at the very northern point of Mauritius offering breathtaking views of the 5 northern islets of Mauritius. It was here the British landed in 1810. Many visitors now go to the Village of Cap Malheureux only to see and take pictures of the Red roofed Church. Visitors have a lot to see from the beach of Cap Malheureux; you can have the beautiful view of the crystal clear ocean, see the small Islands in the Northern coast of Mauritius and the beautiful beach.

7

Mont Choisy Beach is situated along the northern coast of Mauritius, a few minutes drive from Grand Baie. What makes this beach so special is the gentle way the strand of white sand bends around the coast creating a bay of beautiful, turquoise water, lined with casuarina trees. These trees provide shade and a perfect backdrop for the ocean.

Since this beach is very accessible, it’s a favourite among both tourists and locals and is one of the best places to relax and enjoy quality beach time.

The entrance to Mont Choisy Beach is guarded by a monument which commemorates the very first manned flight between Mauritius and Reunion Island which took place on September 10, 1933.
