Hector Peterson Museum –covering the 1976 student protests that changed the face of South Africa’s politics; The protest was sparked by the Government's insistence to impose the Afrikaans language as the new language of learning in "black schools." The aftermath of this protest that was initiated, organized and led by students themselves became the turning point of the politics of South Africa. In the process of hundreds of school children were shot and many lost their lives whiles others fled into exile.

See the houses of Nobel Peace Laureates Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu located on the same street). Nelson Mandela's house is now a family museum and accessible to the public. A visit to this house sheds some light into this giant's family life. Here he lived with his first wife and later shared the same property with his second wife Winnie. Regina Mundi Church alias The people’s parliament; the hosting venue for the funerals of many who died during the protests against the Apartheid system covering the 1976 through to the 1980s. Nobel peace Laureate Peace prize winner Desmond Tutu presided over most of these funeral services. Visit here and learn how the security police under Apartheid did no spare even churches.

An accredited site guide will meet you in the orientation room and take you through the history of this precinct from when it was built as a prison in 1893 to when the Constitutional Court was inaugurated on this site in 2004.
