Our first stop will be Thingvellir, a national park recognized by UNESCO. From the park, we marveled at the breathtaking expanse of Þingvallavatn, the largest lake in the country. Walking amidst the park, we traversed the remarkable boundary between the European and American continental plates. We also witnessed the historic gathering place of the Althing, the world's oldest parliament, and gazed into Silfra, a symbolic fissure renowned for its crystal-clear waters, drawing divers from all around..
Next, we ventured into the Valley of Geysers, where we unraveled the etymology of the word "Geysir," which christened all such geothermal marvels. The highlight was Strokkur, Iceland's tallest geyser, erupting every few minutes with impressive force, sending water spurting up to 30 meters into the sky. The vibrant hues of mineral deposits on the ground and the smoky valley combined to create an otherworldly ambiance.
Our exploration then led us to the majestic Gullfoss Waterfall. This powerful cascade cascaded down in two magnificent steps, showcasing an awe-inspiring display of cascading water. If luck favored us with clear skies, a radiant rainbow adorned the waterfall, adding to its natural grandeur. We relished multiple vantage points, even daring to venture closer, and embracing the possibility of getting lightly drenched by the waterfall's mist.
