The name "Devil's Pulpit" comes from a peculiar mushroom-shaped rock formation at the bottom of the gorge. Legend has it that this was where the devil would stand to preach to his followers. While I can't speak to the truth of that tale, I can say that standing there does feel otherworldly.
Getting down to the pulpit itself is quite an adventure. There's a steep staircase known as "Jacob's Ladder" that winds its way down the cliff face. It's not for the faint-hearted,
and I always make sure to wear sturdy shoes and take my time.
