About this experience

Sail on Lake Como aboard the famous MAS 28 – A unique historic speedboat

Live an exclusive experience sailing on Lake Como aboard the famous MAS 28, one of the most famous armed torpedo boats in Italian history.

In the years before the Great War, the Italian Royal Navy formed a special corps equipped with torpedo boats called MAS (Motoscafo Armato Torpedo). These small speedboats, less than 10 meters long, were equipped with two torpedoes for quick and stealthy attacks against large enemy ships, taking advantage of speeds up to 40 knots and night surprise.

The MAS 28 traces the historical exploits of these elite craft, linked to famous episodes such as the Bakar Mockery, with illustrious figures including the poet and aviator Gabriele D’Annunzio, a member of the crew.

Detailed itinerary

1

built in the mid-nineteenth century, it owes its name to the Russian prince Alexander Troubetzkoy

The prince demolished an extensive cliff with dynamite and for this reason he was called the "turbascogli" by the Blevians. The villa has very sloping pitches with characteristic dormer windows and a bold lift, which goes down to the lake from the Larian road.

2

It is a three-storey building with a turret on the right; the main floor is marked by a series of gabled windows and is underlined by a terrace with statues supported by a trabeated Doric portico which constitutes a sort of pronaos for the main entrance.
The park surrounding the residence is particularly noteworthy for the presence of centuries-old trees including an enormous plane tree and a precious cedar of Lebanon.

3

we will pass through Laglio and Clooney's famous Villa.
At the time, the ownership of Villa Oleandra was in the hands of the family of John Heinz, the founder of the sauce brand of the same name, known throughout the world. It was his heirs who handed over the estate to Clooney, who wrote a check for 10 million dollars. The actor made a great deal: the property is now valued at around 10 times as much.

4

sailing towards Cernobbio we will visit Villa d'Este which is a Renaissance patrician residence located on the shores of Lake Como in the municipality of Cernobbio. Both the villa and the 25-acre park that surrounds it have been substantially modified compared to the building originally intended as a summer residence for Cardinal Tolomeo Gallio. Since 1873, the complex has been used as a luxury hotel. It is part of the historic places of Italy.
