Detailed itinerary

1
Stop 1

At the apartheid museum travelers will get to have a reflection of how life was during apartheid through to the transition to a multi racial democracy in the new South Africa thanks to the exhibitions that give a detailed account of the segregation and minority rule that was imposed on black Africans by the whites from petty apartheid like being barred from sharing the same entrances to places, swimming pools, bathrooms and transport amongst others to severe forms of segregation like being dispossessed of land, being deprived of quality education, being denied economic opportunities and being denied the right to vote for leaders of their choice. Among the 22 exhibitions in the museum is the most popular one of Nelson Mandela`s life map whose release from prison marked the end of the apartheid era and the transition to a multi-racial democracy which gave South Africa its nickname The Rainbow Nation.

2

Travelers will make a stop at the FNB stadium which is the biggest stadium in South Africa with a capacity of over 94000 and was host to the 2010 soccer world cup games. Built from 1987-1989 the stadium also gained its popularity as a place where Nelson Mandela gave his first ever public speech after being released from prison.

3
Stop 3

Travelers will get to see the twin towers which once served as a coal powered power station for over 50 years before being decommissioned and transformed into an entertainment and business center offering activities like bungee and BASE jumping from a platform between the towers. Travelers can take part in these activities on their own accounts.

4

Here travelers will see how one of the most poor communities in South Africa unites against all odds to educate equip and feed about 500 to 600 kids from the community every single day. Kliptown community lacks basic amenities like schools, home tap water, sewer systems amongst others so Kliptown youth program helps kids by assisting them with their school work, feeds them, provides sporting facilities for them and enrolls them into their arts and culture programs.

5

In Vilakazi street travelers will get a once in a lifetime chance to walk in the only street in the world that was once home to two Nobel Peace price laureates namely Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu. Travelers will go inside Nelson Mandela`s former house which was transformed into a museum that exhibits his life and his struggles to end apartheid after which travelers will have lunch in the form of a local cuisine at a restaurant famous for its Soweto themed buffet.

6
Stop 6

The museum is named in honor of Hector Pieterson, a student who was shot and killed together with 170 other students two blocks away from where the museum stands. Travelers, from the exhibits, will get insights of the famous June 16 1976 protest also known as the Soweto uprising, in which black African students took to the streets in protest of among other human rights abuses was the imposition of Afrikaans to be used as a medium of instruction in all schools including the black African schools and famous among the exhibits, which are in the forms of feature films, personal accounts, newspapers and photographs, is the photograph of Hector Pieterson being carried moments after he was shot dead and the photograph gained popularity the world over.
